Weak Ankles

What are weak ankles?

A weak ankle is a condition that causes the ankle to become sore, achy, and unstable. With weak ankles, even walking around the house can cause pain and discomfort.

What causes weak ankles?

The most common cause for a weak ankle is an ankle sprain that hasn’t fully healed or healed properly.

Common symptoms:

  • Repeated turning of the ankle, while walking, playing sports, etc.
  • Persistent discomfort and swelling
  • Pain and tenderness
  • The ankle feeling wobbly or unstable

How do we treat you?

We will perform a physical examination and ask you about your symptoms. We we’ll evaluate your health history and if conservative treatment for your ankle sprain fails, we may recommend further solutions.

Usually, weak ankles can be treated conservatively by:

  • Rest to allow for full healing
  • Stretching and strengthening exercises
  • Bracing the ankle
  • Over-the-counter anti-inflammatories
