Learn How HyProCure Treatment Can Help Your Foot Pain

Misalignment of the feet is one of the most common causes of conditions that cause foot pain. When portions of the feet are not aligned properly, it can cause pain and pressure in the ankles, knees, and hips as well. Using treatments and minimally invasive techniques, the foot can be brought back into alignment, allowing the person to live a more active life without extreme pain or discomfort.

HyProCure® is a procedure that is minimally invasive  – meaning it’s done by making a very small incision – and can restore proper alignment to the feet. It can be used to treat a variety of conditions allowing the patient to walk and run normally again. Once the structural abnormality is diagnosed, receiving treatment in a timely fashion is the key to preventing further damage to the foot.

What Issues Does HyProCure® Treat?

The HyProCure® technique can treat many common foot conditions that are caused by misalignment of the feet. Hammertoes, bunions, overpronation, and heel pain can be debilitating and often causes a person to dramatically reduce their level of activity.

Misalignment of the bones in the feet can cause a myriad of foot conditions that can have a devastating impact on your life. This can be caused by several different things including wearing shoes that do not fit properly, injuries to the feet that result in structural damage, birth defects, and health conditions such as arthritis and gout.

Using the HyProCure® technique helps to restore balance without causing major trauma to the foot. Treating these conditions in their earliest stages will protect the foot from extensive structural damage that may require more invasive procedures. As soon as you begin to experience foot or heel pain, it is important to inform your doctor and receive a thorough examination.

How Does the Procedure Work?

The HyProCure® technique is minimally invasive and is used to realign and restore balance to the foot. A small incision is made during the procedure that allows the doctor to place a small titanium stent into the naturally occuring space between the ankle and heel bones.

The stent acts as a stabilizer that allows for full range of motion of the foot while protecting the ankle bone from damage. Implanting the stent reduces abnormal movement of the foot, reducing pain and discomfort. As the person walks or runs, the stent allows pressure from the weight of the body to be dispersed around the stent. This restores how weight is transferred throughout the foot, allowing for improved range of motion and much less foot pain.

Other than a small incision that is used to allow for the implantation of the stent, there are no other techniques used in the procedure. No screws are needed and there is no drilling.

Risks and Benefits

The HyProCure® procedure offers benefits as well as risks. For many people who suffer from misalignment in the foot and other structural abnormalities, the pain and discomfort they feel are often the determining factors when it comes to choosing the HyProCure® procedure.

In addition to being minimally invasive and performed as an outpatient procedure, other benefits include:

  • Reduces strain on the structure of the foot
  • Very little discomfort during the procedure
  • Reversible
  • Eliminates the pressure from other areas of the body that causes foot and heel pain
  • Recovery time is short allowing a person the opportunity to resume their normal activities much sooner

Along with the benefits, every surgical procedure, no matter how invasive, offers some degree of risk.  A few of the risks of the HyProCure® procedure includes:

  • Infection associated with the surgical procedure
  • Too much or too little correction due to the size of the stent
  • Excessive pain due to the bones’ inability to adapt to the stent once it’s in place
  • Sprained ankle syndrome

In most cases, the benefits far outweigh the risks associated with the procedure. Many of the risks produce potentially short-term issues that often resolve themselves as the bones and tissues adapt to the stent being in place.

As the person’s foot and ankle continue to adjust, their gate will begin to return to become more normal. This, in turn, results in pressure being dispersed more naturally throughout the foot, reducing the pain and discomfort associated with misalignment. If issues continue to persist, the stent can easily be removed with little to no structural change.

Recovery

To allow for proper healing and prevent injuring the ankle, it must be allowed sufficient time to heal before resuming regular, day to day activities. In most cases, patients walk out of the office after the procedure, but doctors recommend resting the ankle for at least 3 to 5 days and then gradually begin to include more activity as the joint begins to feel better.

Taking over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medications and applying ice on the area during rest will help to keep inflammation to a minimum. It’s also important to keep the foot elevated. Wearing shoes that offer proper support to both the foot and the ankle will also help to speed up the healing process.

Each person will heal according to their own body’s ability. Some patients may take a week or more to start walking on a regular basis, while others may be able to resume their normal activities in just a few short days. The stronger a person is before the procedure, the faster their body will heal.
